InterviewTry ("we", "our", or "us") is an AI-powered mock interview preparation platform operated by Headway Talent Consulting. We are committed to protecting your personal information and being transparent about how we handle it.

This Privacy Policy applies to all users of our website at interviewtry.com and our associated services. By using our platform, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in this policy.

This policy is compliant with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

Account Information

• Full name and email address (required)
• Phone number (optional, provided during registration)
• Password (stored as a hashed value — never in plain text)

Resume Data

• The resume file you upload (stored securely on Amazon S3)
• Parsed text extracted from your resume for interview personalisation
• Previously uploaded resumes are retained so you don't need to re-upload

Interview Session Data

• Your text responses to AI-generated interview questions
• Session duration, track (e.g. Frontend, Data Science), and completion status
• AI-generated scores, feedback, and performance reports

OAuth / Social Login Data

• If you sign in with Google or GitHub, we receive your name, email address, and provider-assigned user ID
• We do not receive your social media password, posts, contacts, or any other data beyond what is listed above

Usage & Technical Data

• IP address, browser type, device type, and operating system
• Pages visited, session timestamps, and feature usage patterns
• This data is collected automatically via server logs and is used for security and platform improvement

3. How We Use Your Data

• To create, authenticate, and manage your account
• To conduct AI-powered mock interviews personalised to your resume and target job description
• To generate and display interview performance reports and skill feedback
• To calculate your gamification stats — XP points, streaks, badges, and leaderboard rank
• To enforce subscription plan limits (free vs. pro vs. enterprise)
• To send important service-related communications (account alerts, policy changes)
• To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
• To improve our AI models and platform quality (using anonymised, aggregated data only)

We will never sell your personal data to third parties or use it for advertising purposes.

4. Data Storage & Security

Database: Your account and session data is stored on MongoDB Atlas (cloud-hosted, encrypted at rest).

File Storage: Resume files are stored as private objects on Amazon S3 (region: ap-south-1, Mumbai). They are never publicly accessible — download links are generated as time-limited (10-minute) signed URLs on demand.

Passwords: All passwords are hashed using bcrypt with a work factor of 10 before storage. Plain-text passwords are never stored or logged.

Transmission: All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS. We do not transmit personal data over unencrypted channels.

Access Control: Access to production systems is restricted to authorised personnel. Admin accounts require elevated role authentication.

While we take all reasonable precautions, no system is completely secure. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you within 72 hours as required by applicable law.

We share minimal data with the following trusted third-party services, solely to operate the platform:

• Account data — retained for as long as your account is active
• Interview sessions and reports — retained indefinitely while your account is active, so you can review your progress history
• Resume files — retained until you delete your account or overwrite with a newer resume
• Server logs — retained for up to 90 days for security purposes
• Deleted accounts — all personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days of account deletion

7. Your Rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and other applicable laws, you have the following rights:

• Right to access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Right to correction — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
• Right to erasure — request deletion of your account and associated personal data
• Right to withdraw consent — withdraw consent for data processing at any time (this will require account deletion)
• Right to grievance redressal — raise a complaint if you believe your data rights have been violated

8. Cookies & Local Storage

We use browser localStorage (not cookies) to store your authentication token and basic profile information on your device. This is essential for keeping you logged in between sessions.

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics cookies. We do not use Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel.

You can clear your localStorage at any time via your browser's developer tools or privacy settings. Doing so will log you out of the platform.

9. Children's Privacy

InterviewTry is intended for users aged 16 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 16. If we become aware that a child under 16 has provided us with personal data, we will delete it immediately.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we make significant changes, we will:

• Display a notice in the app for registered users
• Send an email to your registered address for material changes

Continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
